Eyewitness recalls King Charles' unexpected reaction to Diana's death

Although King Charles has been divorced from her for some time, he seemed to react unconsciously to the tragic news of Princess Diana's accident.

The strained relationship between Charles and Diana was no secret, as the late Princess of Wales had revealed her estranged husband's affair with Camilla in her interview.

Despite the chaotic separation from Diana, Charles himself was, according to eyewitnesses, a little shocked by his reaction to the death of his ex-wife, which occurred on August 31, 1997.

“When he was told on the phone that Diana had died, Charles howled like a wounded animal,” royal author Christopher Andersen quoted an eyewitness as saying. ^ “Fox News Digital”.

“Later, after rushing from Balmoral Castle in Scotland to Paris to bring her back to England, Charles almost fainted when he saw her body for the first time,” Anderson reported. “A nurse standing in the room told me he recoiled and looked as if he had been 'struck by an invisible force.'”

Anderson said people were surprised by Charles' reaction given the “epic” marital dispute.

“He was devastated by Diana's death, perhaps to a degree that even surprised him,” the author continued. “Charles was devastated.”

The late Princess of Wales died along with her boyfriend Dodi Fayed in a terrible car accident in Paris.

Although the former exes were bitter about each other during their separation, Andersen noted that in Diana's final months they finally put aside their differences for the benefit of their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

“In the months before Diana's death, she and Charles decided to put their bitterness behind them and became, as she called it, 'very best friends,'” he said. “A close confidant of Diana's told me that 'her love for Charles never really died.'”
