Munich “Lions” have “fought and suffered”

TSV 1860 Munich celebrates an immensely important victory. The 2:1 win at FC Ingolstadt brings the “Lions” their first points of the season. Will this finally give Argirios Giannikis’ team some momentum?

Munich (dpa/lby) – The “Lions” are breathing a sigh of relief. At least a little. After three defeats at the start of the third division season, TSV 1860 Munich finally got its first win. With the 2:1 (1:0) win in the Bayern derby against FC Ingolstadt, football coach Argirios Giannikis also got some breathing room.

“That was a good performance from the team, despite three defeats and the pressure that is put on them to play like that,” the Munich coach praised his team. They had not been “shot down” in the past either. “There were phases in which we made mistakes. We have now given a good response on the pitch.”

“Huge burden” falls away

Maximilian Wolfram gave Munich the perfect start in the 5th minute in the atmospheric neighborhood duel. Substitute Julian Guttau (64th) increased the lead after the break against Ingolstadt, who were too vulnerable defensively. Pascal Testroet's goal (86th), who converted a penalty awarded to him, came too late.

“A huge burden has been lifted. We fought and suffered. We gave it our all as a team, we fought against the opposition,” said Wolfram on Magentasport. “It may have been a very dirty win. But I don't give a damn. The three points were so incredibly important. It's a great feeling right now.”

Keidel: “Got an elbow”

For TSV it was the first win in four games, while Ingolstadt suffered their second defeat. The Schanzer were particularly annoyed about the phase in which the second goal was conceded.

He had “received an elbow beforehand, so I didn't see the goal,” reported midfielder Felix Keidel. “But in that situation, I definitely got hit on the nose. So, in my opinion, the situation definitely needs to be called off, maybe things would have turned out differently then.”

Coach Sabrina Wittmann also found it hard to understand the 0-2 defeat. “We played brilliantly in the second half. Then we were unlucky. There is no justification for us to stop playing. Felix Keidel clearly got a slap in the face,” said Wittmann. “We then conceded the 0-2 in the transition situation, which is absolutely bitter. All in all, it hurts us a lot that we lost the game.”

Werner’s plea: “The team needs time”

The international break now offers both teams time to make corrections. For Giannikis, the question is whether he has only bought himself time with the win, or whether the “Lions” can now actually work their way up.

“I can absolutely understand the dissatisfaction. I can also understand that the fans are absolutely not happy with the start of the season. We had hoped for things to be different, but we have to stay calm now,” explained managing director Christian Werner before the game. “We have to analyse the reasons for this. The new team needs time. The processes too. We are trying to get out of this with all our might.” The first step has been taken.
