Two defamation cases filed against Bashundhara Chairman MD

DHAKA, September 1, 2024 (BSS) – Two defamation cases were filed today against ten persons, including Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his son and the group’s Managing Director (MD), Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Diamond World Ltd Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala filed a defamation suit for Taka 1,000 crore in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib, while former president of Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) Enamul Haque Khan Dolon filed a defamation suit for Taka 100 crore in the same court.

After recording the statement of the complainant in the case filed by Agarwala, the court asked the accused to appear before the court. It also asked the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case in the case filed by Dolon.

The other accused in the cases are: Naem Nizam, editor of Bangladesh Pratidin, Abu Taher, deputy editor, editor of The Daily Kaler Kantho, its senior reporter Haider Ali, CEO of East-West Media Group, Abu Tayyab, manager of East-West Media Group, Ruhul Amin Russel, reporter of Bangladesh Pratidin, and Ripnul Hasan Ripon, special correspondent of Kaler Kantho.
