Trump accused of 'brazen reversals' on marijuana and IVF, while new poll shows Harris extending her lead among women: Live

Harris-Walz campaign releases ad attacking Donald Trump over Project 2025

Kamala Harris' campaign team accused Donald Trump of changing his mind on several policy issues, including IVF treatments and recreational marijuana use.

In a memo on Saturday, the campaign team said: “Trump must be held accountable for his blatant dissents, which are completely at odds with his conduct as President.”

Harris noted that her policy positions have come under considerable media scrutiny and that they were also the focus of her first interview on Thursday. “At the same time, former President Donald Trump has made several confusing 'policy proposals' that require real scrutiny.”

Meanwhile, Harris says Trump “disrespected sacred ground” when he performed a “political stunt” this week by illegally filming video at Arlington National Cemetery, leading to a confrontation between his campaign team and cemetery staff.

The Trump team has since hit back, releasing video messages from Gold Star families who lost loved ones during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan under Presidents Joe Biden and Harris.

In a joint statement, the families of the soldiers killed in the Abbey Gate bombing said they were “appalled” by the vice president's “recent attempts” to politicize Trump's visit to the cemetery and accused Harris of ignoring requests for a meeting.

Is Usha Vance’s Hindu identity an asset or a liability for the Trump-Vance campaign?

Usha Chilukuri Vance loves her “carnival” husband, JD Vance. She explained to an enthusiastic audience at the Republican National Convention how her vice presidential candidate adapted to her vegetarian diet and even learned to cook Indian food from her immigrant mother.

The image of her white Christian husband preparing the spicy dishes of her parents' home state of southern India is atypical for the leaders of a party whose membership is still largely white and Christian. Her presence at the RNC sparked excitement on social media among some Indian-Americans, particularly Hindus, even though most Indian-Americans identify as Democrats.

Yet although Usha Vance spoke about her identity-blending marriage in her just over four-minute speech in Milwaukee last month, she made no mention of her Hindu upbringing or personal faith or her interfaith relationship – biographical details that exposed her to vitriol and hatred online.

Experienced senator criticizes Trump's photo opportunity in Arlington

Senator Tammy Duckworth, a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel who served in Iraq and lost both legs, has sharply criticized Donald Trump's use of Arlington National Cemetery for a photo shoot.

On X, she wrote: “Donald Trump's recent incident at Arlington National Cemetery is another example of someone who has no idea what it means to serve something greater than himself. It is sacred ground for those who gave their lives to defend and protect this nation, not the backdrop for a photo shoot.”

Duckworth continued, “That is why I have opposed his administration's expansion of its ability to bury presidents who never served in uniform, like himself, at Arlington. Respect for this hallowed ground should not be a partisan issue, but Trump cannot help but disrespect our soldiers and veterans.”

Trump again claims October 7 never happened and accuses Biden of plotting against him

Donald Trump has again claimed that the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel – like Russia's war against Ukraine – would never have happened if he had been president.

The former president also bizarrely accused Joe Biden of using his Delaware beach vacation to “plan and scheme to take out his former political opponent, MA.”

Biden probably has more important things to do. The president returns to the campaign trail tomorrow on Labor Day in Pittsburgh with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Here’s what Trump wrote on Truth Social today:

The hostage crisis in Israel is only happening because Comrade Kamala Harris is weak, ineffective and has no idea what she is doing. I look forward to seeing her at the debate! Biden failed and now spends his day at the beach plotting and scheming how to take out his one-time political opponent, ME, who took him out both at the debate and otherwise. THE OCTOBER 7 ISRAEL CRISIS WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IF I WERE PRESIDENT!

Trump thanks the families in Arlington and attacks “fools in the White House”

Donald Trump has thanked the families of fallen service members who invited him to join them at Arlington National Cemetery, stressing that they wanted him to stand with them and take photos, a move he made in an attempt to defuse the furor following an altercation between his campaign staff and aides.

The former president also used the opportunity to attack the “FOOLS in the White House” for the deaths of thirteen soldiers during the withdrawal from Afghanistan three years ago.

Trump wrote on Truth Social:

I want to thank the families of our great warriors we lost for how they came together and they thanked me for attending, at their request, the celebration of their wonderful family members who are no longer with us due to the incompetence of Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Thank you for saying you wanted me to stand and take photos with you at the national ceremony in Arlington. That was your wish, not mine, but it was my great honor to do so. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT! Lightweight Vice President Kamala Harris tried to turn it around because they weren't there, never talked to the families, and have no intention of doing so. In Afghanistan, you don't get the soldiers out first, you get them out last. That would be Military 101, the easiest thing to do, and the “leaders” of this disaster should be fired immediately. We have IDIOTs in the White House and now they are trying to resolve the hostage situation in Israel. Guess how this will turn out?

New poll shows more enthusiastic support for Harris, more reservations about Trump

A new ABC News/Ipsos poll released today shows that Kamala Harris is more enthusiastically supported by her supporters, while a larger share of Donald Trump's supporters are hesitant about supporting him than his supporters.

Among Harris supporters, most (64%) strongly support her, 18% support her with some reservations, and 19% fundamentally oppose the other candidates.

60 percent of Trump supporters explicitly support him. However, compared to Harris, almost twice as many Trump supporters support him with reservations (31 percent support Trump with reservations compared to 18 percent for Harris).

A similar gap exists among “opponents,” those who support their candidate because they primarily oppose the other candidates. Compared to Trump, twice as many Harris supporters support her because they primarily oppose other candidates (19% support Harris because they primarily oppose other candidates, compared to 9% of Trump supporters).

For most Americans (79%), Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s abandonment of his campaign and support of Trump will have no impact on their voting decision. About one in ten (12%) say Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s support of Trump makes them more likely to support him, while a nearly equal share (9%) are now less likely to support Trump.
