SunLive – Man charged with murder after child's death

UPDATE: A murder investigation is underway following the death of an eight-year-old boy.

Police were called to an address on Anthony Cr in Bader, Hamilton at around 5.20pm on Sunday for reports of a “violent altercation”.

In a statement released this morning, a police spokesman said three people were taken to hospital – the boy with critical injuries and two other adults with moderate and serious injuries.

“Unfortunately, the boy succumbed to his injuries last night.

“A 37-year-old man arrested by police at the scene has been charged with murder and assault and is due to appear in court today.

“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident but will remain in the area to continue examining the scene and further enquiries.”

One person is in police custody following an altercation in which a child suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to the Herald, weapons were involved in the incident, and police say two adults are also in hospital with injuries.

St John Police and Ambulance were called to an address on Anthony Cr in Bader, Hamilton, at around 5.20pm on Sunday to reports of a “violent altercation”.

Two adults on the property were also injured. They were taken to Waikato Hospital where they remain with moderate to serious injuries.

Police have arrested one suspect and say they are not looking for anyone else. That person was not hospitalized, a spokesman said.

Officers were asked to remain on scene overnight and the investigation of the crime scene will continue.

Police declined to provide further details, including whether the arrested man will face charges or appear in court.

According to the Herald, a major police investigation is underway at the property in Anthony Crescent as the child fights for his life.

A police spokesman will provide an update today.
