Police report one dead and one injured in shooting outside Michigan State Fair

NOVI, Mich. (AP) — Two teenagers were shot, one fatally, just outside the Michigan State Fair. Police described the incident late Saturday as an isolated incident.

Police in the Detroit suburb of Novi, where the fair is being held, said that shots were reported shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday. The shooting occurred in the fair's parking lot and was initially described as a shooting spree, which required several police agencies to intervene. However, authorities later classified it as an isolated incident.

“There is no threat to the community,” Novi police said late Saturday in a statement on social media platform X.

Both victims, 14-year-old teenagers, had arrived at the fair with friends. Investigators believe that the shooting was the result of an argument that had occurred in the last few days.

The teenagers were taken to a local hospital, where one of the 14-year-olds was pronounced dead. The condition of the other was stable, police said.

Police have not identified a suspect.

Novi is about 30 miles northwest of Detroit. The state fair ends on Monday.
