Artem Chigvintsev called 911 and accused Nikki Garcia of throwing shoes at him

In a 911 call made immediately before his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence earlier this week, a dispatcher reported that Artem Chigvintsev accused Nikki Garcia of throwing shoes at him.

On Sunday, September 1, TMZ released an audio recording of the 911 call from Thursday, August 29, in which a dispatcher states that the Dancing with the stars The 42-year-old pro claimed that 40-year-old Garcia threw shoes at him. He also asked for medical attention.

In the clip of the 911 call, the dispatcher can be heard saying that the call “initially came in as a request for medical assistance, but now he states that he got into an argument with his wife and that his wife threw shoes at RP. [reporting party],” according to TMZ.

“There is a child on site. An ambulance is on the way,” added the dispatcher, apparently referring to the couple's four-year-old son, Matteo.

“There is an active 415 [disturbing the peace] responsible in the background,” the dispatcher continued, according to TMZ.

Chigvintsev then stated that no further medical assistance was required and the dispatcher reported: “RP indicates that no medical assistance is required at this time.”

According to TMZ, the dispatcher found that Chigvintsev and Garcia were physically separated.

Chigvintsev was arrested and cited for assault on his wife shortly before 10 a.m. on August 29 in Napa Valley, California, two days after he and Garcia celebrated their second wedding anniversary, PEOPLE previously reported. The Russian-born dancer was released the same day on $25,000 bail.

A spokesperson for Chigvintsev did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Earlier this week, the couple celebrated their wedding anniversary with several social media posts. On Tuesday, August 26, Garcia posted a tribute on Instagram with a video that included snippets of moments from throughout the couple's relationship.

“This song is our love story. I'll never forget where I was when I asked Jesus about Artem,” she wrote in part in the caption. “I was having a conversation with Him and God. How my feelings felt too soon. It all felt too fast. And then this song came along. And that's when I knew I was falling in love with him and that it was all meant to be.”

In a statement to PEOPLE on Friday, a spokesperson for Garcia asked that the former WWE star's privacy be respected.

“This is a private matter and Nikki is asking for her and her family's privacy at this time,” the statement said.
