Vikings use reserve lists for roster cuts: TJ Hockenson on reserve/PUP

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings used reserve lists to reduce their 2024 roster to 53 players by Tuesday's 3 p.m. CT deadline.

Minnesota has placed tight end TJ Hockenson on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

The Vikings placed linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk on the injured list and outside linebacker Gabriel Murphy and guard Dalton Risner on the injured list – designated for return.

According to NFL policy, teams with players classified as active/unable to perform or active/non-football injury or illness must “choose one of the following options: Place the player on the reserve/unable to perform or reserve/non-football injury or illness, whichever is applicable; resign or apply for a waiver with a designation of 'unable to perform' or 'non-football injury or illness,' whichever is applicable; apply for a waiver; terminate the contract; trade the contract; or continue to list the player on the active roster.”

Hockenson will not count toward the 53-player limit, but will have to sit out the first four games of the 2024 season.

Each team may nominate a maximum of two returning players, who will be “placed on an applicable reserve list on the business day of the final squad reduction.”

All players designated for return will count toward the maximum eight players a team may designate for return throughout the season (teams that make the playoffs may return a maximum of 10 players), even if those players do not return to practice. Any player placed on the Reserve/PUP list prior to roster reduction will be required to sit out the entire season.
