Fans are excited for the Cook Out Southern 500 race in Darlington

It's Labor Day weekend and that means if you're in Darlington, you'll see racing fans from around the world preparing for the Cook Out Southern 500.

All weekend long, fans enjoyed the events and prepared to see their favorite drivers.

Sunday's race is the Cup Series season finale and drivers will be on track battling for the final three spots in the 16-team playoff field.

Die-hard fans Ramond and Paulie Brown traveled from Santee, South Carolina, and plan to attend another race after leaving Darlington.

We're really enjoying it and from here we're heading next to Chavin, South Carolina, on Monday, Labor Day, Brown said.

It is also the first time since the playoffs began in 2004 that the racetrack will host the finale of the regular season.

Racing fan David Shaw said he has been a racing fan since he was five years old and attended Sunday's race with friends.

Shaw added that he was prepared to hear the sound of loud engines and tires on the tracks.

“Anyone who knows racing knows what the Southern 500 is, and this is the Southern 500 area, so this is where racing started, NASCAR started at this spot a long time ago, so it's a big deal,” Shaw said.

Entrance to the event was at 2:30 p.m., the race starts at 6:00 p.m.
