Barry Keoghan lands a role alongside Cillian Murphy in one of the most anticipated films of 2025

Barry Keoghan has reportedly joined the cast of the highly anticipated Netflix series. Peaky Blinders Film that is expected to be released in theaters next year.

The spin-off is a continuation of the hugely popular BBC series, which ran for six seasons from 2013 to 2022. The series is set in the post-World War I era and Oscar winner Cillian Murphy plays Birmingham-based gangster Thomas Shelby.

Deadline was the first to report on Keoghan's casting on Thursday (August 29), noting that details of his role were being kept secret.

Keoghan received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor and won the BAFTA in that category for Martin McDonagh's 2022 hit The Banshees of InisherinLast year he received BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for his leading role in Emerald Fennell’s discourse-promoting Saltburn.

Last month it was reported that dune Star Rebecca Ferguson joined the cast alongside Murphy, who reprises his role as Shelby.

The currently untitled film was written by Peaky Blinders Creator Steven Knight and directed by Tom Harper, who directed several episodes of the series' first season.

“It seems Tommy Shelby is not finished with me yet,” said Murphy Deadline“It is very gratifying to be working with Steven Knight and Tom Harper again on the film adaptation of Peaky Blinders. This is something for the fans.”

The return of the 48-year-old Irishman was originally confirmed by Knight in March. “Murphy is definitely coming back for [the movie]”, he said at the premiere of his BBC drama. The city“We’re filming just down the road in Digbeth in September.”

Knight previously said Deadline that the film's story would be set in World War II. Production is scheduled to begin this year.

The BBC's original series also starred Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson and Helen McCrory.

Hardy played Alfie Solomons, the leader of a gang based in Camden Town.

Speaking to Sky News in June, Hardy hinted at his character's return in the upcoming film.

“Alfie will definitely turn up, I'm 100 percent sure of that, but I don't know when,” he said. “And I don't even know if he will turn up, that's just my guess.”

Knight had previously hinted that the film would be released sometime in 2024, but with filming beginning in September, Knight has now hinted at a 2025 release date.
