Godfrey failed to yield at the junction with the A1303 Newmarket Road and collided with the Fiesta, which was travelling east towards Newmarket.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital.

During questioning, Godfrey told police that she did not see the intersection and was unable to stop in time.

Godfrey, of Northfield Park, Soham, was sentenced to ten weeks in prison, suspended for a year, by Cambridge magistrates last Thursday (22 August).

She had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to causing serious injury by careless driving.

She was also banned from driving for a year and had to pay costs totalling £239.

Det Con Alex Bond said: “This case is a wake-up call for all drivers to be careful when driving. A lack of concentration can have very serious consequences.”
