Police arrested a man from Gaibandha in connection with the attack on doctors and vandalism at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The arrested man is Sanjoy Pal Joy, said a statement from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday, but did not provide any further details about the arrest.

On Saturday, three doctors from the neurosurgery department at DMCH were attacked. After the attack, the doctors issued an ultimatum demanding the arrest of those responsible within 24 hours.

Nevertheless, the doctors decided to go on strike before the deadline to express their frustration and concern for their safety.

Four people involved in the attack were arrested and handed over to army personnel on Saturday evening.

At the same time, a patient who had swallowed poison was declared dead by the doctors in the emergency room. The patient's relatives then ransacked the emergency room.

On Sunday, medical services were suspended in private and public hospitals across the country, including DMCH, as doctors went on strike in protest against attacks on medical workers.

After a meeting with Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum on Sunday, the protesting doctors postponed their strike by 24 hours to Monday, 8 p.m.
