Mountain View man arrested in connection with shooting that injured minor | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

A Mountain View man was arrested in connection with a shooting that left a minor injured Saturday night, according to an online Stone County Jail inmate roster.

Police arrested 60-year-old Steven Gill early Sunday morning, Sheriff Brandon Long told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Sunday evening.

Gill is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and endangering a minor under 10, according to the online inmate roster. Long said Gill's bail has not yet been set.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff's office, Stone County officials responded to a 911 call on Saturday that a person had been shot in rural Mountain View.

At about 5 p.m., officers arrived at a private pond on Claudia Road and encountered a minor who had suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder blade, Long said Sunday. Medical personnel treated the suspect at the scene and the victim was flown to Arkansas Children's Hospital for treatment of his “non-life-threatening” injury, Long said.

The sheriff's office's original post said the victim was shot with a “small caliber weapon.” Long confirmed it was a .22 caliber rifle.
