Bare-Knuckle: Danny Christie wins BKFC title fight in Spain

The Currock fighter will face his top American opponent David Mundell for the BKFC middleweight title in October.

Christie is aiming for the rare BKFC achievement of becoming champion in two different weight classes.

The man from Cumbria was British light heavyweight champion before giving up the belt and moving up to middleweight.

After one middleweight bout – a win over Jimmy Millar in June – the 39-year-old is now aiming for the title at the BKFC Spain event in Marbella on Saturday 12 October.

Christie will face an impressive opponent: 33-year-old Florida fighter Mundell, a mixed martial arts professional who has a record of eight wins and one loss in the BKFC.

He has been middleweight champion since December 2022, when he defeated Francesco Ricchi for the vacant belt.

Since then, he has successfully defended the belt last year by defeating Mike Richman and Doug Coltrane.

Christie was recently in Spain as part of a major BKFC promotion that also featured Conor McGregor, who is a co-owner of BKFC.

The clash with Mundell will be the seventh BKFC game for the Carlisle man; Christie has six wins and one loss to his name so far.

His victories over Terry Brazier, Darren Godfrey and Anthony Holmes earned him the British light heavyweight title before the Cumbrian fighter suffered defeat to American Jared Warren.

Christie bounced back with a win over David Round to defend his British title, before moving up to middleweight where he defeated Millar in Newcastle.

His match with Mundell will be one of several title fights in Marbella, with Franco Tenaglia facing Tony Soto for the lightweight belt and Austin Trout facing Rico Franco for the welterweight title.

Christie is one of three Cumbrians fighting on the BKFC scene along with heavyweight Agi Faulkner from Egremont and lightweight Bartek Kanabey from Maryport.
