Chris Eubank Jr. aims to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Conor Benn in the next 12 months

In a wide-ranging interview that will be available on the 5 Live Boxing podcast, Eubank Jr. speaks candidly about the pressures of being the son of British boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr.

“Now I'm not so concerned about living up to my father's aura and expectations. I used to worry about that, but now it's just not part of my personality,” he said.

The fight between Eubank Jr. and Benn was scheduled to take place in October 2022, 30 years after the fight between their fathers Nigel Benn and Eubank Sr. However, the fight was canceled when it was revealed that Benn had failed two voluntary doping tests.

Benn, who has always maintained his innocence of deliberate doping, is currently suspended from combat sports after the UK Anti-Doping Agency and the British Boxing Board of Control successfully appealed against the lifting of his ban.

But Eubank Jr. says “that chapter is not closed yet” and insists he will call the shots in any future fight between the two.

“I imagine it will happen in the next 12 months. As soon as he gets his license back and his career gets back on track, that fight will happen,” Eubank Jr. said.

He added: “[Benn] has no say in anything now. He's lost all his privileges. You can't fail a drug test and then come back and say, “I still want weight clauses and rehydration clauses.” Now you take what you get. Now you're the bad guy.

“Now it's not just about how our fathers argued. Now we have our own argument. We have our own history. We have our own past.”
