Man arrested in Westbourne after being seen with suspected firearm

Dorset Police received a report at around 1pm on August 31 that a man with a possible firearm was seen in a vehicle in West Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth.

Armed police reportedly responded to the incident and, after locating the vehicle, found an air rifle inside.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 1.13pm on Saturday 31 August 2024 of a man seen with a possible firearm in a vehicle in West Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth.

“The officers responded immediately and the vehicle was located. The officers found an air pistol in the vehicle.

“After a search, a 22-year-old man was found nearby who was also in possession of a quantity of suspected cannabis.

“He was subsequently cautioned for possession of an imitation firearm in a public place and possession of a Class B drug.

“There were no reports of injuries or threats to members of the public.”

A witness reported seeing police using mirrors to check the underside of the car.
