Hill-Lewis hopes Emaan Solomons will get justice four years after her murder

CAPE TOWN – Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis on Monday attended the first day of a trial of two gangsters accused of the murder of a seven-year-old girl in Ocean View.

Emaan Solomons was shot and killed in February 2020 when she was caught in the crossfire of gang violence.

Hill-Lewis said his deepest sympathy goes out to the family members who have waited nearly four years for the trial to begin.

“Today I joined the family of young Emaan Solomons, a beautiful little girl who was killed by the bullets of gangsters in Ocean View four years ago. Now, after all this time, the trial has finally begun and we can hope for justice.”

A cooperation agreement was signed last week that will see all three levels of government work together to combat crime in the Western Cape. The mayor said the city's aim was to help the police tackle gang violence, as well as gun and drug crime more broadly.
