Customs foils smuggling attempt at Jinnah Airport and confiscates $17,922 in foreign currency

Customs authorities foiled an attack at Jinnah International Airport and seized $17,922 worth of foreign currency smuggled into Dubai.

The passenger, named Moster Uddin, was searched before the flight and was found to be in possession of Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani cash.

The most serious find, however, was the large amount of Indian cash, which is suspected to be counterfeit, customs officials said.

Authorities conducted an investigation and reportedly found thirty bundles of Indian 500-rupee notes in the lower part of the passenger's bag. It is not yet clear how much of this is actually counterfeit.

In addition to the Indian currency, the officials seized 16,728 Bangladeshi taka and 45,660 Pakistani rupees from the accused's pocket. The total amount of the seized currencies, when exchanged, would be approximately 17,922 US dollars.

The Customs Department immediately initiated legal action and a case was registered against the accused. The case is still under investigation to find out the source and purpose of the seized currency and particularly the suspected counterfeit Indian currency notes.
