Graham Alexander gives Bantams injury update for EFL Trophy

Graham Alexander confirmed that the City defender has undergone tests and they are now awaiting the results.

Alexander said: “Hopefully we will get it back tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.

“According to (physiotherapist) Matt (Abbott), he will probably be out for at least a couple of weeks.”

City will be without Callum Johnson and Antoni Sarcevic – and Calum Kavanagh’s participation in tomorrow’s group match in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy against Newcastle’s U21s is also questionable due to a minor injury.

The Bantams begin again in a competition in which they reached the semi-finals last season.

It was the longest run in the club's history – and ended with a deflected goal in injury time after a dominant game against League One side Wycombe.

“I look back on that time fondly because we changed teams every time,” Alexander added.

“We used the squad and they still achieved great results.

“The derby in particular was a standout result for me. They were determined to win the competition, no matter what the draw meant, and now they are a Championship club.

“It was a brilliant performance from us and what I really liked was that they were players who had come on straight after not playing the previous Saturday.

“Some of them stayed with the team after that and I think that’s the best thing about it.

“It’s still bitter because we were the better team in the semi-finals and should have made it to the final, which is an incredible event for everyone involved with the football club.

“But in the end we lost and we had to accept it. Whatever happened last season, we have to put it behind us.

“But we have to be confident that with these changes we have prepared for every game just as we did for the league – and we have done that for tomorrow too.

“The players understand that we approach all games the same way. We want to win every game and that will not change.”
