“Amanatullah Khan was forcibly arrested without any evidence,” says AAP MP Sanjay Singh

New Delhi [India]September 2 (ANI): Aam Admi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Monday accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of forcibly arresting AAP MP Amanatullah Khan on Monday.

He warned that this move would cost the BJP dearly as it would lose the upcoming assembly election in Delhi.

In a post on social media platform X, he said, “This harassment will cost the BJP members dearly. They will suffer a major defeat in Delhi. @KhanAmanatullah was forcefully arrested without any evidence.” Earlier on Monday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Aam Aadmi Party MP Amanatullah Khan. The investigating agency first arrived at his residence to conduct a raid.

The case concerns irregularities in the Waqf properties. Khan is the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board.

As ED officials took the AAP MP out of his house, Amanatullah Khan shouted to his supporters, “I am innocent.” Earlier this morning, the AAP MP's cousin Minnatullah Khan had stated that despite investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the CNBI, nothing had been found so far.

He said, “His mother-in-law underwent surgery recently, she is a cancer patient. Despite investigations by ACB and CBI, nothing has been found so far… Now the ED is investigating.” In a self-shot video, the AAP MP said that the investigating agency had been harassing him continuously for the past two years.

In another post on X, Sanjay Singh expressed his happiness over the Supreme Court's decision to grant bail to Vijay Nair in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy case.

“Satyamev Jayate! The BJP central government has conspired against the Aam Aadmi Party and put many party leaders in jail. But after Manish Sisodia and Vijay Nair were released on bail, it is proved that truth can be challenged but cannot be defeated,” he said on XToday. A bench comprising Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti granted bail to Nair, noting that he is in judicial custody for 23 months in the matter.

“The general assumption that bail is the rule and imprisonment the exception becomes completely irrelevant when the plaintiff is kept in custody for a long period of time,” the top court said.

The Supreme Court held that Vijay Nair deserved bail under the conditions stipulated in the bail orders of Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha.

The Supreme Court stated that the right to liberty under Article 21 is a sacred right that must be respected even in cases where strict provisions are made under special laws.

“In the present case, the plaintiff is in custody for 23 months and his detention pending trial cannot be a form of punishment without the institution of trial,” the Supreme Court said.

Nair was initially arrested in September 2022 by the CBI and later by the ED in the matter. He has sought bail as co-accused Manish Sisodia has been granted bail and the trial in the matter has not yet begun. Nair's lawyer also argued that his client should not be further detained and deserves to be released on bail. (ANI)
