A toddler cried nonstop during a flight. Two strangers locked him in the bathroom

(Gray News) – A toddler was locked in an airplane bathroom by two strangers and the video sparked controversy online.

The incident went viral after one of the women posted a video on a Chinese social media site showing the woman, who did not know the child, locked in a bathroom with the crying child.

CNN reported that the child appeared to be about a year old.

“We're not letting you out until you stop crying,” a woman sitting on the toilet told the toddler in the video, according to CNN.

The girl stopped crying and the woman filming the video told her that if she “makes another noise, we'll come back.”

The woman who posted the video said her intention was to ensure the other passengers had a “restful flight.”

The post quickly sparked backlash and the video was later deleted.

CNN reported that the incident occurred on August 24 on a Juneayao Airlines flight.

The child was with her grandparents and cried nonstop during the nearly three-hour flight. With the grandmother's consent, the two women took the girl to the toilet to “discipline” her, the airline said in a statement to CNN.

According to the Southern Metropolis Daily, the airline's customer service department later apologized for the incident.
