Search for owner after abandoned caravan fire in Ombersley

The abandoned caravan and a large amount of illegally dumped rubbish were set on fire in Ombersley.

It had been left at a lay-by on Bishops Wood Road and, along with ten metres of hedge, was “completely destroyed”.

The incident prompted police and firefighters to search for the owner, but he could not be found.

A spokesman for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two crews – one each from Wyre Forest and Droitwich fire stations – were called to a caravan/camping fire on Bishops Wood Road in Ombersley at 8pm on August 31.

“An abandoned caravan at a rest area was completely destroyed by a fire that had spread to a hedge about 10 m wide.

“The teams extinguished the fires with two hose reels and searched the area together with the police.

“No people were found.

“Worcestershire County Council was informed of the incident as a large amount of illegally dumped waste was found and the caravan was burnt out.

“The incident was marked pending resolution at 11:07 p.m.”

A West Mercia Police spokesman added: “At around 10pm on Saturday 31 August we attended a caravan fire on Bishops Wood Road in Ombersley to assist the fire service with traffic control.

“No arrests were made.”
