For the past two decades, Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi have been the two most recognizable names in the world of competitive eating. The Japanese star rose to prominence in 2001 when he won the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest with a record-breaking 50 hot dogs and buns – the first of six consecutive wins at Coney Island. In 2007, Chestnut took the stage and surpassed Kobayashi by eating 66 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes, which was a then-record.

The two are the only male competitors to win the competition more than four times – Kobayashi with six and Chestnut with 16. The two have not competed in the most famous competitive eating contest since 2009 after Kobayashi refused to sign an exclusive contract with Major League Eating and has not been seen at Coney Island since on July 4. This year, Chestnut missed out on a chance at a 17th Mustard Belt after signing a contract with another organization.

These paths now lead us to Netflix, where a 10-minute hot dog and bun eating contest takes place between the two greatest eaters of the 21st century.

    The setup for today's competition is simple: Similar to the Coney Island competition, Chestnut and Kobayashi have 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs and buns as they can.

    Since the competition is likely to be close, two overtimes are also planned. In the first overtime, Chestnut and Kobayashi have to eat as many hot dogs as possible in three extra minutes. In the second overtime, it's all about speed. The first of the two to eat five hot dogs wins.

    Two of the most common strategies in competitive eating – dunking hot dogs in water and separating the sausages from the buns – are not allowed. Additionally, there will be official referees counting each hot dog consumed, creating a somewhat more formal hot dog counting process that ensures accuracy. Rule violations, vomiting or even leftover crumbs can result in penalties.
