What the Calcutta rapist accused told his lawyer and the CBI – report

Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, said he saw the doctor covered in blood when he entered the seminar room. During his first meeting with his lawyer at the Presidency Jail, Roy told his lawyer Kavita Sarkar that he wanted to plead “not guilty” in court.

The accused was given a lie detector test last month in which he was asked about 10 questions, including about his conduct after committing the murder, the Times of India reported.

At this point, Roy interrupted and claimed that he had not killed the doctor, so the question was irrelevant. He said he had come into the room and seen the woman lying unconscious.

During the test and his interaction with Sarkar, Roy claimed that he had been framed and added that he did not even know the woman.

Roy told the Central Bureau of Investigation that he had not intended to go into the seminar room where the doctor's body was found, but had entered by mistake.

On August 9, in the early hours of the morning, Roy had gone to the upper floor of the hospital to seek a doctor as a patient he knew required oxygen. At that time, he had entered the seminar hall on the third floor of the hospital.

He told investigators that he came into the room and saw her covered in blood. He claimed that he ran away from the scene in a panic. When asked by a CBI officer why he did not inform the police station at RG Kar Hospital if he was innocent, he said that he panicked and feared that no one would believe his statements.
