MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9)According to police, a driver fled the scene of an accident after fatally hitting a man on a minibike in Minneapolis on Monday.

What do we know?

Officers responded to the crash along Washington Avenue North near 24th Avenue North around 5:30 p.m. At the scene, they found a man with serious injuries after being struck by a car while riding a motorized minibike. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

What happened?

According to preliminary information from police, the victim was traveling west on 24th Avenue and attempted to turn onto Washington Avenue. Witnesses reported that a vehicle traveling north on Washington Avenue at a high rate of speed struck the minibike. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot but was found a short time later.

Investigators are working to clarify the circumstances of the accident and find out whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

What happens next?

The driver is being held in the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
