EastEnders confirms Chrissie Watts’ return date – and it’s soon

EastEnders has confirmed that Chrissie Watts will make an explosive return to the show next week, promising huge drama for Albert Square.

In July, it was announced that Tracy-Ann Oberman would briefly reprise her role as cult villain Chrissie after nearly 20 years away from the series.

The character killed her ex-husband Den Watts before covering up the crime for a time along with Zoe Slater and Sam Mitchell.

But after Sam was initially found guilty, Chrissie was eventually charged with murder and sent to prison. Her last appearance on the show was in 2005.

It has now been confirmed that Chrissie's big comeback will air next week – but the details of her return are being kept top secret.

To Monday, September 9Chrissie will appear on screen for the first time in nearly two decades.

EastEnders has promised that there will be drama, but it remains to be seen what her current circumstances are and what she plans to do now.

Over the course of the week, Chrissie's presence will send shockwaves through Albert Square, but it is not clear who exactly will be affected by her return.

Sharon is having a bad week after being found guilty of contempt of court while testifying in Dean's murder trial.

But things could get a lot worse for her when she meets her former stepmother Chrissie again, and that reunion is sure to set off fireworks.

Also still in Walford is Kat, who also disagreed with Chrissie during her time on the Square, particularly because she implicated her sister Zoe in a murder – so she may not be particularly pleased to see Chrissie again either.

The drama will continue in the next few episodes, and the soap has hinted that there will be “difficult” times, which will culminate in the episode that airs on April 27. Thursday, September 12.

This week, Oberman revealed that her favorite moment from Chrissie’s previous engagement in EastEnders when her character was punched in the face by Peggy Mitchell (the late Barbara Windsor).

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One. The show is also available to stream on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes are available as early as 6am before their TV broadcast.
