3 missing in Connecticut town after boating accident

OLD SAYBROOK, Connecticut – Three people were missing without life jackets after the boat they were on ran into a dock Monday, Connecticut authorities said.

A serious marine accident occurred in Old Saybrook, the North Madison Volunteer Fire Department announced on Facebook. It described the accident as a “mass casualty incident,” that is, an incident in which emergency services resources, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed given the number and severity of the casualties.

According to local media, there were eight to nine people on the boat.

Guilford's dive team was on scene, as were boats, personnel and ambulances from surrounding towns, the fire department said. The Coast Guard and LifeStar, a rescue helicopter, were on scene with helicopters to assist in the search.

Old Saybrook is located about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of New Haven.
