Rumours surrounding the cast of Celebrity Traitors, including stars from Strictly and The One Show

British celebrity special Traitors is officially on the way, inviting a group of people who lie for a living to vie for victory in a star-studded spin-off of BBC One's viral hit series.

As if that wasn't enough, The Traitors has also secured a fourth season of its civilian edition before the already filmed third season airs. When The Traitors season 3 finally launches, it will be accompanied by a new season of comedian Ed Gamble's podcast The Traitors: Uncloaked, which will premiere on BBC Sounds.

The Traitors has quickly become one of the most talked-about shows on television. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the series has a deceptively simple premise: 22 strangers meet in a Scottish manor, and a select few are chosen to become the titular “traitors.” These secret enemies must live among their remaining loyal housemates and do their best to avoid detection while killing players through nightly eliminations.

It's up to the believers to discover and stop the traitors before their numbers dwindle. If they achieve this goal, they can win a growing jackpot. If they lose, the prize money goes to the traitors.

The Traitors puts players' lying and lie-detection skills to the test and quickly became a hit on the BBC. Here's everything we know about the celebrity spin-off, including release date, cast, trailer and more.

The cast for the British celebrity special 'The Traitors' has not yet been announced, but it has been reported that married couple Vernon Kay and Tess Daly have signed up for the show. According to The Sun, the pair will be a duo, as mother and son Diane and Ross were in the last season.

Since Daly is a huge star thanks to her role as host of Strictly with Winkleman, and Kay is known from radio and as a presenter of shows such as The One Show, viewers will know they are married and the other celebs will know too, so they won't be able to keep their union a secret. But it seems the strategy could still create suspense and keep the contestants on their toes.

Of course, the cast of the “Traitors” has yet to be confirmed, but could there be some truth to the rumor, given that Daly is good friends with presenter Winkleman thanks to co-hosting “Strictly”?

It wouldn't be the first time that married couple Kay and Daly – who have two daughters together – have worked together. In 2006, they launched a reality singing competition called Just The Two Of Us, but it only ran for two seasons.

The studio behind the show reportedly has high goals when it comes to the famous faces it wants to lure into the Traitors mansion.

Other early rumours suggest that British acting icon Stephen Fry is all but confirmed to star in the spin-off series. According to a source cited by The Sun, the Blackadder actor told show bosses: “Give me a time and date and I'll be there.”

Other names such as professional poker player Victoria Coren Mitchell, EastEnders actor Adam Woodyatt and Hollywood star and former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield were also mentioned. Friends star Courteney Cox and talk show host Jonathan Ross were also mentioned.

According to The Sun, Ross is reportedly considering appearing on the celebrity debut of The Traitors and said he could “join a reality show” in the near future.

The American version of The Traitors took a slightly different approach to the British edition. The American version featured both famous and “civilian” actors, including former Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, while the British edition featured non-famous contestants.

Elsewhere, a host of stars gathered for a special Comic Relief parody of The Traitors in early 2024, featuring Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, as well as David Walliams, Catherine Tate and a handful of former Traitor contestants.
