Arrests in highway attack during Kanwar Yatra

Police have arrested five suspects who allegedly damaged a vehicle and attacked its driver during the Kanwar Yatra on the Haridwar-Delhi National Highway in July, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident, which allegedly occurred when a vehicle hit a Kanwar participant, was found to be unconfirmed upon investigation.

The incident took place on July 21 near Bahedi Cut in the jurisdiction of Chapar police station. Driver Aqib was travelling from Dehradun to Meerut when the incident occurred.

The police rescued Aqib and confirmed that the allegations were false. The accused, who were identified through video footage, were charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including creating a public nuisance and attempt to murder.

Legal proceedings are now being initiated against the five arrested persons – Tushar, Karan, Anshu, Tarun and Varun.
