Watch an Indianapolis police officer stop a suspect holding a woman at knifepoint

Indianapolis police have stopped a man who allegedly threatened a woman with a knife after shooting another woman earlier this summer.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on June 25 when police responded to reports of shots fired after a man drove his truck into another vehicle in a company parking lot, WRTV-TV reported.

Investigators later found out that it was a domestic violence incident and that the suspect – 45-year-old Elijah Radford – had shot a woman he knew. According to witnesses, Radford had pressed his gun against the woman's head and pulled the trigger, but the gun malfunctioned.

When police arrived at the scene, Radford fled in a pickup truck. While one group of police officers pursued Radford, another group entered a building at the scene and found two victims: a woman with gunshot wounds and an injured man who had tried to stop Radford and was able to disarm the suspect.

A chase ensued, with Radford reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Eventually, Radford crashed into an apartment complex building, closely followed by police.

Radford forced his way into an apartment while police followed him on foot. When an officer arrived at the door, he could hear screaming coming from inside.

The officer went upstairs and confronted Radford, who was holding a knife to a woman's back. When Radford refused to comply with orders to drop the knife and surrendered, the officer opened fire, shooting the suspect, who was still clutching the knife.

The woman who was allegedly shot by Radford and the injured man were taken to the hospital and treated. The woman who was held at knifepoint was unharmed and the officers were not injured.
