Pregnant woman loses baby after ‘attack on East Lothian main street’

The woman is said to have been pushed off a bench by two teenagers at around 6.20pm last Friday as she waited for a bus in Tranent.

The teenagers are said to have knocked the pregnant woman to the ground and injured her before running away.

The victim was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by her husband the following afternoon after suffering from “bleeding and severe and unbearable pain”.

After the incident, the desperate husband published an appeal on social media to track down the boys.

But today the man posted an update saying that his wife had a miscarriage in the hospital.

He wrote: “I just want to keep everyone updated on my wife's condition.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform the community that my wife had a miscarriage and is still recovering in hospital.

“This is a very traumatic, heartbreaking and horrific experience for us, especially for my wife and children.

“I appeal to all those who have sons, [and] Daughters, nieces [and] Nephews, please say a word to them.

“Teach them and remind them every day how to respect people and behave in public. Good manners should be taught and start at home.”

Previously, the husband posted: 'Two high school students in black uniforms (one wearing shorts, the other long pants) pushed my pregnant wife as we were waiting for the bus at the bus stop on High Street at around 6.20pm.

“She even offered [them] a seat and she was nice to them but they were so rude.

“My wife was hurt, she was angry and told them she was pregnant.

“They apologized and ran away. [Is] “Is there video surveillance in this area?”

On Saturday afternoon, the man added: “Just an update to my post from last night, my wife is now bleeding and in severe and unbearable pain.

“We are waiting for the emergency services. This is a cry for justice.”

Shocked locals took to social media to express their outrage over the incident and offer their condolences to the family.

One said: “Oh my god this is so awful. I was really hoping she was getting better. Love to you all.”

A second added: “Sorry to hear that. Hopefully whoever did this to your wife and baby will be charged.”

And a third posted: “I am so sorry for this devastating loss. I hope that in time you will receive justice.”

Following the incident, a Police Scottish spokesman said: “We have received a report of an assault in High Street, Tranent which occurred on Friday 30 August.”

“The investigation is ongoing.”
