Man with arrest warrant arrives at police station in stolen vehicle and injures police officers before arrest

The Inver Grover Heights Police Department is releasing details of a recent incident that seems hard to believe even happened.

Police said it all started on Sunday when officers arrested two people who were found slumped in a car. The driver was arrested for drunk driving, while the passenger was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Later, the driver wanted to be released for a sobering-up party and called a friend to pick her up at the train station.

This is the point where it is hard to believe, according to the police authority.

According to police, the friend who was picking up the driver had three arrest warrants from multiple counties and arrived in a stolen vehicle with false license plates.

According to police, the man knew about the arrest warrants and decided to come to the station anyway.

After learning of the warrants, police attempted to take the man into custody. However, when an officer attempted to open the vehicle's door to arrest him, the driver sped away. The officer sustained minor injuries and other officers began pursuing the vehicle.

The chase eventually ended on Highway 52 when a South St. Paul police officer performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.

There were three people in the allegedly stolen vehicle; the man wanted on an arrest warrant was arrested, the other two occupants were proven not to have been involved in the incident and were later released.

The driver was booked into the Dakota County Jail on several new charges, including assault on a police officer and fleeing with a motor vehicle.
