Two Naxal women sentenced to five years in prison for murder in Chaibasa

The court of the Second District Magistrate in Chaibasa on Tuesday sentenced two Naxal women, Jubna Birua and Saraswati Bhumij, to five years of imprisonment. Both were found guilty in a 2018 murder case registered at the Manjhari police station in West Singhbhum.

According to the prosecution, Jubna Birua, wife of Damkan Birua, and Saraswati Bhumij, wife of Durga Bhumij, attacked a man named Sukhlal Birua with sticks due to an old enmity. In the attack, Sukhlal, a resident of Nagarkatta village in Manjhari district, sustained serious injuries. He was admitted to a government hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

After Sukhlal's death, the police registered a case against unknown assailants. After an investigation, they found that Jubna Birua and Saraswati Bhumij were responsible for the attack. Both women, who also lived in Nagarkatta, were subsequently arrested and charged under the relevant laws.
