Robert Whittaker: The victory against Khamzat Chimaev will prove that I am the best middleweight in the world

[autotag]Robert Whittaker[/autotag] will try to establish his position as the best middleweight at UFC 308.

Whittaker (26-7 MMA, 17-5 UFC) enters [autotag]Khamzat Chimaev[/autotag] (13-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) on October 26 at UFC 308 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) inside the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Whittaker knows Chimaev will test his grappling skills and he has trained hard for it. However, this is not the first time Whittaker has prepared for a strong grappler, as he has fought and defeated Yoel Romero and Ronaldo Souza twice.

If he can inflict the first loss of his career on Chimaev, Whittaker says it will set him apart from the rest of the pack in the 185-pound class.

“You can bet I'm training like an animal on the mat right now,” Whittaker said on his “MMArcade Podcast.” “I'm sweating and bleeding and giving it everything I've got to prepare for this fight, and I'm going into this fight ready to give it my all.”

“I don't expect him to get tired or anything. I expect him to be aggressive, super scary to wrestle and very strong. I just think I've been in those waters before. I know how to move. I'm good at it. I'm the best middleweight in the world. Beating him will prove that and I'm looking forward to it.”

Whittaker's only losses in the middleweight division came against former champion Israel Adesanya and current champion Dricus Du Plessis.
