Injured Bremen footballer in “good mood” after operation

The Bremen High School community is supporting their quarterback as he recovers from a serious spinal cord injury sustained during Friday's game.

After Friday's game, paramedics took Carson Kimball to Grady Memorial Hospital and his family says they're just taking it day by day at this point.

“His friends have been visiting, which is really helping him,” said Cole Kimball, Carson’s brother.

Cole said Carson is in good spirits as he recovers from the serious injury he suffered in Friday's game, and now has no feeling in his legs.

Cole said Carson had been playing football since fifth or sixth grade and loved the sport, and his family never expected something like this to happen.

“We were actually on a trip to Florida. We were in Jacksonville with my sister and my parents were supposed to come with Carson. As soon as we got there, we got the news and were just trying to figure out what was going on,” Cole explained.

Carson Kimball suffered a serious spinal injury during Friday's rivalry game against Bowdon High School that left him without feeling in his legs.

Carson had to undergo emergency surgery to replace a vertebra in his neck with titanium, but since then he has made some progress, according to his family.

“He only had feeling down to his chest, and now it goes three or four inches, almost to his stomach,” Cole explained.

But it's the support of the community that has helped them get through. Dozens have donated at the family's soda shop, Sips Soda, in Carrollton.

“One time there were about 30 people here, it was incredible. People came to support him,” explained Sips Soda employee Kaylee Steele.

The family is also working to set up a bank account for donations, and a GoFundMe campaign has already raised nearly forty thousand dollars.

“To see everyone come together like this is just incredible. I've had hundreds of messages, Carson has a lot more than I do. So many people are praying for us and offering us help. The support for our family has been incredible,” Cole said.

“We have great confidence. He is in God's hands and has a great attitude,” he added.

There will also be a community barbecue before Friday's home game, with proceeds benefiting the Kimball family. It will be held on September 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the main entrance of Bremen High School Stadium.
