‘BJP wants to take control of Delhi through the back door’ AAP’s Saurabh Bhardwaj after President empowers LG Saxena

New Delhi [India]September 4 (ANI): After President Droupadi Murmu gave Delhi LG VK Saxena power to form boards and committees in the national capital and appoint members to them, AAP leader and minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Wednesday alleged that the BJP is trying to take control of Delhi through the back door.

The AAP leader said that while LG Saxena is getting more and more power, he is not working when it comes to his responsibility and accountability.

“When it comes to his responsibility and accountability, LG Sahab is not working. Thousands of doctors need to be employed. Jobs need to be created in hospitals. Thousands of poor bus conductors have become unemployed. LG Sahab has prevented all this. And when it comes to acquiring power, he keeps attacking more power. Why is he attacking it? So that he can misuse the power,” the AAP leader told ANI.

Bhardwaj claimed that the central government wanted the entire capital to be administered by the LG.

“He is hiring a social media company for Rs 1.5 crore (15 million) annually to become famous through social media influencers. The power of the elected government is being snatched away and given to appointed people,” he said.

“The central government wants the entire Delhi to be ruled by the LG. Because the BJP is not capable of winning elections. So the BJP wants to take control of Delhi through the back door, but that will not happen,” the AAP leader added.

This came after President Murmu delegated powers to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena to set up and appoint members of all authorities, committees, commissions and statutory bodies under any law passed by Parliament and in force in the capital, the Home Ministry said.

The official notification issued by the Home Ministry on Tuesday said, “In pursuance of clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution read with section 45D of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991 (1 of 1992), the President hereby directs that the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, exercise the powers of the President under clause (a) of section 45D of the said Act for establishing any authority, board, commission or statutory body, by whatever name it may be called, or for appointing any Government officer or ex officio member of any such authority, board, commission or statutory body.” (ANI)
