Canandaigua man sentenced on new child pornography charges

A Canandaigua man was sentenced to 60 months in prison for distributing obscene material after a previous conviction for possession of child pornography. Preston Herbst, 28, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci.

Herbst had already been sentenced to 36 months in prison in 2023, but was caught selling child pornography on Snapchat before turning himself in. Investigators traced the activity to Herbst's residence, which was a violation of his release conditions.

The FBI led the investigation with assistance from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Snap Inc. Herbst's sentence will be served immediately following his previous prison sentence.
