Man charged with ethnic intimidation after allegedly stabbing Philadelphia park ranger – WEIS

Philadelphia Police Department

(PHILADELPHIA) — Ethnic intimidation charges have been filed against a man accused of stabbing a Philadelphia park ranger on Sunday, police said.

The suspect, 34-year-old Thomas Riceman, is also charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and terroristic threats, a Philadelphia police spokesman told ABC News.

Police said they responded to reports of an attack Sunday afternoon in Rittenhouse Square, where they found the victim with multiple stab wounds in the park's security booth.

The victim, who worked in the security booth, told police that the suspect entered the booth and lay down before the alleged attack.

When the victim asked the suspect to leave, the suspect “suddenly attacked” and stabbed the victim in the face and head with scissors, police said.

According to police, charges of ethnic intimidation were filed because the suspect allegedly asked the park ranger to “go back to his own country.”

Despite his injuries, police said the victim managed to handcuff the suspect and detain him until police arrived.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where his condition was last reported to be stable, according to police.

ABC News could not immediately determine whether the suspect had hired a lawyer.
