PMQs live updates: Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak face off in first PMQs since summer break

Grenfell reaction a significant moment for Starmerpublished at 12:04 British Summer Time

Prime Minister's Question Time returns.

The role reversal currently being observed nevertheless has a certain novelty value: As opposition leader, Rishi Sunak asks questions, and as prime minister, Sir Keir Starmer answers these questions or offers an answer to them.

Added to this is the new look of the House of Commons – the large number of Labour MPs, the greatly reduced Conservative seats and the significant Liberal Democrat bloc.

But the most important event in the House of Commons today actually takes place after PMQs, when the Prime Minister responds to the Grenfell Tower report.

It will be the first time that Starmer will have to speak on behalf of the country in the House of Commons and find words that reflect the gravity of the results.

I remember perhaps comparable moments – the infected blood scandal, the Hillsborough disaster, the public inquiry into Bloody Sunday.

These are momentous moments for a Prime Minister and a test of his ability to rise to the occasion. We will cover these comments here on our Grenfell live page.
