Man sentenced to ten years in prison for selling fentanyl in Upshur County

CLARKSBURG – James Edward Breeden, 30, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, was sentenced to 124 months in a federal prison for selling fentanyl in Upshur County.

According to court documents and testimony in court, Upshur County Sheriff's officers were on routine patrol during a traffic stop and witnessed a vehicle speeding into a motel parking lot. Officers observed Breeden engaging in activities consistent with drug trafficking. Eventually, the defendant's actions led to a search of Breeden's motel room, during which officers seized 277 fentanyl stamps.

Following his prison sentence, Breeden will be released on probation for three years.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Upshur County Sheriff's Office investigated. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
