Investigation into the case of Joshua Fisk (21) from Aldeburgh concluded

The inquest into the Joshua Fisk case took place at Suffolk Coroners' Court in Ipswich on Tuesday.

Mr Fisk died at the family home in Aldeburgh on January 25, two days after his 21st birthday.

His parents, Lisa and James, were present in the courtroom during his inquest.

They told the presiding coroner, Dr. Daniel Sharpstone, that their son was “so compassionate, full of life and empathy.”

Mrs Fisk told the court: “Josh would stop to talk to a man on the bench on Top Road because he thought the man was lonely. He gave him that time. That was the kind of person he was; when friends needed him, he was there.”

“His heart was so open. I always said the world is in your hands, it's up to you what you do with it.”

Mr Fisk had visited his GP in December 2022 after suffering from low moods following the end of a relationship. He said he had thought about ending his life but had no plans to do so. It was agreed that Mr Fisk would try to reduce his alcohol consumption as it was affecting his sleep.

The GP attempted to contact Mr Fisk in January 2023 but he did not respond. There was no further contact with mental health services.

Fisk's family said he “did not appear unhappy in any way.” He enjoyed his job and was touched that his coworkers had bought him presents for his birthday.

That evening, Mr. Fisk had helped his mother prepare dinner. Later, the family searched for his savings book and reminisced about old photos they had found.

The next day, Mrs. Fisk returned home from work at 3:30 p.m. When she entered her son's bedroom, she discovered that he had committed suicide.

Emergency services were called, but at 4.18pm Mr Fisk was pronounced dead.

Dr. Sharpstone determined that it was a case of suicide and expressed his sincere condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Fisk.
