Matt Baker says it's 'really tough' in health update after serious injury | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Matt Baker has spoken about his ongoing battle with a serious injury as he still grapples with rehabilitation.

The 46-year-old BBC presenter, known for his roles in Blue Peter and Countryfile, was appearing in the pantomime Goldilocks and the Three Bears when he suffered a nasty fall on his tailbone.

The former gymnast described the incident in which a chair stunt went wrong and he suffered a severe herniated disc.

Matt told The Sun: “It's torture, it's really challenging to come back and get fully fit again. I still think, really… yeah, it's really tough.”

“I just try to do rehab all the time, stretching, doing strength training exercises and stuff.”

Matt has previously expressed how grateful he is to the NHS for their support following his terrible accident.

In February, he wrote on Instagram: “I have been suffering from a herniated disc for some time. As a former gymnast, it is hard for me not to be able to bend forward, so I decided to have a nerve block.”

“What a brilliant surgeon and amazing NHS team who carried out my treatment. Thank you all! (Also a huge thank you to the nurse who watched me on Blue Peter – the buttered toast was amazing).”

The injury was also discussed on Gabby Logan's podcast “The Midpoint,” where he explained, “I hurt my back. I can't tell you how frustrating this is for me as a former gymnast not being able to bend over.”

During an appearance on Gabby Logan's podcast “The Midpoint” in March, Matt explained the cause of his injury.

He said: “I twisted my back. I was doing a pantomime. I was doing Goldilocks and the Three Bears and we were practicing with the stunt chairs and the chair wasn't adjusted properly and bang! I fell on my tailbone and it turned out I had a herniated disc in my back.”

This comes after speculation over whether Matt will return to The One Show following Jermaine Jenas’ sacking.

The former football star was relieved of his duties at the BBC after complaints from women about receiving inappropriate text messages were investigated.

Matt, who co-hosted the show with Alex Jones for nine years, hinted at a possible return, telling the above publication: “Look, if they need me then I'm more than happy to talk to them and see how I can help.”

“Who knows at the moment, I haven't spoken to anyone, but like I said, it's a show that I still absolutely love.”
