Former Arkansas judge found guilty of perjury

(The Center Square) – A federal jury found a former Arkansas judge guilty of making false statements to the FBI, the Justice Department said.

Thomas David Carruth, 64, is a former Monroe County District Judge, according to the Justice Department. The charges stem from an incident in April 2022 when Carruth allegedly solicited sex from the girlfriend of a defendant who was in his court.

Carruth lied to the FBI when questioned about the incident, the Justice Department said in a press release. According to previous information from the Justice Department, Carruth demanded sex in exchange for an expedited trial of the defendant.

The maximum penalty for giving false testimony is five years in prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
