Man charged after incident involving replica gun in Attawapiskat

Attawapiskat – NEWS – An 18-year-old man has been charged following an incident involving a replica handgun at an Attawapiskat First Nation pool hall on Friday, August 30.

Members of the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service from the local department responded that evening to a call about a male suspect brandishing a handgun at a pool hall on Main Street West. When officers arrived, they found civilians detaining the suspect, who was then arrested without further incident.

The police investigation revealed that the suspect entered the pool hall with a handgun and pointed it at another person. Several patrons intervened and were able to disarm him before police arrived. The weapon was later identified as a replica Glock-style pistol.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the altercation.

The accused, identified as Keegan Wheesk, 18, of the Attawapiskat First Nation, faces several charges, including:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes
  • Careless handling of a firearm
  • Aiming with a firearm

Wheesk appeared in court on Saturday, August 31, and was remanded in custody pending a later court date.
