“Only Murders in the Building”: The series continues

“Only Murders in the Building” continues. The sequel was announced even before season four is over.

“Only Murders in the Building” is getting a fifth season. The stars of the successful TV show, Steve Martin, 79, Martin Short, 74, and Selena Gomez, 32, announced this on Instagram. According to US media reports, the next season of the murder mystery series on the US streaming service Hulu will consist of ten episodes in accordance with the prescribed seasons.

The series has already received 49 Emmy nominations for the first three seasons. The third season of “Only Murders in the Building” alone was nominated 21 times for the important television award. In this country, the series can be seen on Disney+. The fourth season of the show started there on August 27th.

This is what season four is about

Viewers have known about the new murder case in the fourth season of “Only Murders in the Building” since the final moments of the official episode: Charles' (Martin) stunt double and girlfriend Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch, 64) is shot. Since she was dressed like Charles, the suspicion quickly arises that he was actually supposed to be murdered.

At the same time, a major Hollywood studio wants to bring the “Only Murders” podcast to the big screen. Mabel (Gomez), Oliver (Short) and Charles travel to Hollywood and meet the three star protagonists Eva Longoria, 49, Eugene Levy, 77, and Zach Galifianakis, 54, who they are to play in the planned film project. The acting celebrities follow Oliver, Charles and Mabel back to New York. They want to study the trio's peculiarities in order to be able to portray them convincingly on screen. But in the course of this role study, the Hollywood greats are drawn ever deeper into the murder investigation.

More big stars than ever before

Even in the official seasons, well-known actors such as Oscar winner Meryl Streep, 75, or Paul Rudd, 55, known from numerous Marvel films, appeared in “Only Murders in the Building”. In the fourth season, however, there are significantly more guest stars and well-known faces.

In addition to returning actress Streep, who once again plays the character Loretta Durkin, the aforementioned Longoria (“Desperate Housewives”), Levy (“Schitt's Creek”) and Galifianakis (“Hangover”) are part of the acting ensemble this time. Also new to the cast are Melissa McCarthy, 54, and Kumail Nanjiani (“The Big Sick”, 46).
