24-year-old suspect arrested after fatal shooting of mother of four in Mid-City

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans Police have arrested 24-year-old Chante Mark in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Raven Marie Francis.

The crime occurred on September 1 shortly before 3 a.m. near the intersection of Baudin Street and South Solomon Street.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a large group brawl in the parking lot of the Shamrock Bar and Grill on South Carrollton Avenue.

According to police, Francis and four other women were involved in a fight during a nighttime outing. As they drove away, someone opened fire on their vehicle. The group tried to flee, but the car struck a fire hydrant and overturned near the intersection. Francis later died in the hospital. The conditions of the other four women involved were not disclosed at the time of the police report.

However, Trina Francis, Raven's mother, disputed part of the police report in an interview with Fox 8. She stated that only four women were involved – her three daughters and her friend. According to her, Raven was killed by a gunshot to the head, while one of her sisters suffered a graze and the other two women were injured in the car crash, not by gunfire.

Detectives identified Mark as the suspect, which led to an arrest warrant.

Mark was arrested at a hotel in Chalmette and is currently being held in the St. Bernard Parish Jail as a fugitive from Orleans Parish.

The police believe that further arrests may be made as the investigation progresses.
