The Big Ten Conference has acknowledged that the Weber State player who tackled and injured Washington Huskies tight end Quentin Moore was not an eligible player after entering the field from the sideline during the game.

8:03 minutes before the end of the second quarter In Saturday's game between Washington and Weber State, a Weber State defender entered the field after the ball was snapped and eventually made the tackle on a 14-yard pass,” a conference spokesperson told reporters, via Christian Caple of OnMontlake.com.

Weber State only had 10 players on the field when Washington snapped the ball. Linebacker Garrett Beck then ran onto the field from the Weber State sideline while the play was still in progress. Moore caught the pass in the middle of the field and Beck made the tackle on Moore, who was injured in the process.

The game was officiated by a team of Big Ten referees on Saturday, and the conference said the game would not have been called off even if the referees had noticed Beck's late entry onto the field.

“The late addition of the eleventh defender was not noticed by the officials,” the statement continued. “The game would not have been stopped had the illegal substitution been noticed. At the end of the game, Weber State should have been assessed a five-yard penalty from the previous point under Rule 3, Section 5, Article 2.a.”
