4 killed, accused teenagers in custody

A 14-year-old student opened fire at a high school in Georgia, USA, on Wednesday, killing four people. An official confirmed this information. The student accused of the attack, which took place on Wednesday (Wednesday night IST) at Apalachee High School in Winder, Barrow County, has been taken into custody.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the incident. A bureau official said the accused student's name is Colt Gray and he was arrested on school grounds. He is already under investigation for weapons charges.

He said that due to the incident, students had to seek shelter in their classrooms and were then sent to the football stadium to ensure their safety. After the incident, parents also came to the school to inquire about the safety of their children. Among the dead were two students and two teachers from Apalachee High School.

Nine other people, including eight students and a teacher, were injured

Nine other people, including eight students and a teacher, were also injured and hospitalized in the incident. The incident occurred in Winder, about an hour's drive from Atlanta. Second-grader Kaylee Ebner was in geometry class when she heard the gunshot. When they heard the gunshot, Abner and her friends hid under their teacher's desk.

A CNN report includes interviews with some students who were present at the time of the attack. According to one student, Laila Sayarath, the attacker came and knocked on the door while she was studying algebra in class, but another student refused to open the door when he saw the gun in his hand. After that, he went into the next room and started shooting. Student Alexandra Romero, who survived the shooting, was quoted as saying that the attacker screamed as soon as he entered the classroom and warned the students. After that, he opened fire. All I remember is that my hands and legs were shaking and everyone was crying. I still imagine the blood and screams, etc.

The teacher then created a barrier by placing the desk in front of the door so that no one could get into the classroom. Ebner said that after the students gathered at the football stadium, he saw the teachers taking off their shirts and bandaging the wounds of the injured.

Chris Hosie, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, said that within minutes of the shooting being reported, two school officials attempted to detain the attacking student. He said the suspect was a student. He immediately surrendered and was taken into custody. The accused student has been charged with murder as an adult.

At an afternoon press conference, officials said they were investigating how the suspect got the gun and entered the Barrow County school. Meanwhile, Barrow County Sheriff Judd Smith cried while giving information about the incident, saying he grew up in that location and his children go to school there.

This is very offensive: Kamala Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris said during a campaign rally in New Hampshire: “It is outrageous that in our country of America, parents have to send their children to school every day and worry about whether the child is going to survive.” Will he or she be able to return home or not?

In a message posted on social media, former President Donald Trump said: “These beloved children were taken from us too soon by a sick and deranged monster.”

“This is a day every parent will dread, and this tragic event will cause Georgians everywhere to hug their children tightly and refuse to let them go,” Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said in a statement.

The Atlanta office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said its officers remained at the school and were “coordinating and cooperating with local law enforcement.”

The cause of the incident is still unclear

Officials from the Bureau of Investigation have not yet disclosed why the suspect boy opened fire in this manner. According to the BBC report, Sheriff Smith has only said that the suspect boy was questioned in custody, but it will take several days to know the reason for this incident. Investigating officials have not released any information about the number of weapons and cartridges used in the shooting. Investigating officials say that given the seriousness of the incident, the underage teenager will be prosecuted like an adult criminal. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. The FBI office in Atlanta also said in a statement that our officers are on the scene to assist local investigative teams.

Investigations are already underway against the accused

The report quoted the FBI as saying that the accused teenager had been investigated before. He was questioned in May 2023 after he made threats in an online post. In these posts, he had also uploaded pictures of weapons. His father was also questioned on the matter. The father had admitted that there were hunting weapons in the house, but could not answer how these weapons came to the accused teenager.
