Relatives of couple killed by allegedly reckless unlicensed teen driver launch online petition

Nearly 1,000 mourners filled the pews of the University Christian Church in Los Angeles on August 17 to attend a memorial service for Yadira and Marcos Caamal. The couple had lived in San Fernando for nearly 20 years when they were both fatally injured in a car crash in mid-July. Their families are now seeking justice for their untimely deaths.

“It's absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. I think we're all still in shock and can't believe it,” said Natalia Saucedo, Yadira's niece, of the tragic and unexpected loss of her beloved aunt and uncle. Yadira, 45, died the same night of the accident. Marcos, who was 48, was hospitalized and in a coma for more than three weeks before succumbing to his injuries on August 9.

Last week, Saucedo and other relatives — including her mother, Yadira's sister Isela Saucedo — started a petition on Change.org calling on the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office to take action. The goal is to ensure that the driver they believe is at fault — a teenager who drove the second vehicle illegally and recklessly — is held accountable. His name has not been released, and to date, there has been no arrest or charges in connection with the fatal incident.
