19-year-old woman allegedly raped and murdered in Bidar district of Karnataka, 3 people arrested | Bengaluru

A case of rape and murder was registered after the body of a 19-year-old woman was found with multiple injuries, days after she went missing from her house in Gunateerthawadi village in this Karnataka district, police said on Thursday.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which allegedly occurred on August 29, they said. The woman was allegedly killed after a stone was hit on her head and later her body was thrown in the bushes, police said, adding that they suspect she was sexually assaulted. However, investigators are awaiting medical reports for confirmation. The victim had been missing since August 29 and her parents filed a complaint at Basavakalyana police station two days later, police said.

“We reported a missing person case and started investigation. On September 1, her body was found with multiple injuries on her body, including her head. Initially, we reported a murder case and the accused were unknown. Then, based on the technical evidence, we started searching for the accused and found three persons who were in contact with her on the day of her disappearance,” said a senior police official.

One of them, who also hails from the same village, was in direct contact with her. “So, we selected the accused and during interrogation, he confessed to murdering her. During interrogation, he said that he was with two others who were watching him from a distance during the incident,” he said. “All three accused involved in the incident have been arrested. We are awaiting the medical reports of the victim. She has sustained head injuries, among other injuries. On suspicion of sexual abuse and based on interrogation, we have added sections of rape in the FIR,” he said.

The main defendant and the victim knew each other well, police said. Her parents knew nothing about it. Further investigations are ongoing.
